NCLT 301 The Creative Writing Experience

Purpose
The overall purpose of this course is to introduce the beginning student to the fundamentals of creative writing (primarily fiction) through a series of reading assignments and writing exercises.
Learning Objectives
- To introduce the beginning student to the fundamental concepts of creative writing (primarily fiction), i.e., setting, characterization, dialogue, suspense techniques, flashbacks, point of view, etc.
- To equip the student with a vocabulary for discussing/critiquing the creative writing of others as well as his/her own work.
- To provide the beginning student with the necessary skills to write a poem or short story.
